My roommate has been contemplating a photo shoot of her ghostly and eerie junior collection with Kenneth Purdom at a location that entices gothic elements. The goal at first was to find abandoned buildings that have been completely destroyed and rampaged leaving a mystery of wonder to whoever steps in. She wanted to find the creepiest graveyards, farm houses, and churches that have been ripped about from the inside out.
After some online research I found a place in Nashville called Mount Olivet Cemetery only 19 minutes away from our apartment. After showing my roomie the images of the incredible mausoleums she was convinced to go scout out the location for ourselves. When arriving to the grounds we were spellbound by the location of such gothic imagery. There were tomb stones of all kinds dating back as late as 1856. There were at least 15 sections to the gigantic estate full of beautiful stone and marble antique tombs, mausoleums, and statues dedicated to rich and honorable deceased beings.
As we drove through the property, not caring who came in our way, we saw fields of amazing pieces of weather stained art. We hit the gold mine of an extraordinary photoshoot of a goth student’s lifetime.
Yes, I might be a tad dramatic about this, but if you were there with me to see the beauty of this cemetery you wouldn’t of thought you were among the dead. It was practically like stepping into a museum of preserved 1850’s historical excellence.
We looked around for a good 2 hours just picturing where to shoot the collection and planning out the day in mind. I was very unlucky to have a dead HD camera on hand so I had to make due with my phone. Sooner or later we will be back.
Until then you can see the shots I took below.
